Southbank Centre
As an artist in residence at Europe’s largest art centre Southbank Centre Cherise was commissioned as a filmmaker. Answering the brief of climate change. "Breathless" is a short film/ immersive installation shot and directed by Cherise. It touches on themes of how climate change disproportionately affects communities of colour & young people children. In dedication of Ella Kissi Debrah the first person in the world to have air pollution cited as the cause of death on her death certificate. She was only 9 years old. Set in a school playground Cherise creative directed the project to evoke themes of peace, playfulness, happiness and joy that we often feel when in the presence of children. The film later shows the effects/our children's future reality if changes are not made.
